Not so. I have had soaring flights in every month at York. Not that they would inspire XC but there are also a lot more off-field landing choices in the winter.

Meanwhile, in Florida https://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-3.0/g ... c=&sp=2022

January is, in most years, not that great a month in Florida, with frequent cold fronts tending to give blue, windy conditions with low buoyancy/shear ratios and low tops of thermals.

But this year is very kind to soaring pilots although the days are short. "Be on final glide by 3:30" is a rule I learned the hard way during my first visit.

I think that 'if' everyone was 'on' the York Soaring 'WhatsApp' and a quick post was made then everyone 'would' have known. It's a very 'up-to-the-minute' com vehicle to get the word out. Messenger is also good but WhatsApp seems less 'clunky.' And 'no,' I did not say "less 233ish." :)
