Yes, it is a donation situation to youth flight. Contact Paul Moggach and/or Wayne Hewison for details.

Re: Any chance of flying woth an instructor on Wednesday the 29th?

I will be at work until Friday, but hopefully someone will find out if the field has dried out enough, and another can tow or instruct.

Remember that we are going to a 3-day week soon, but if the weather is really good, some may be able to go out and take advantage.

Re: Field Condition Closures

No, we are not closed for the season. I understand your frustration, but who is the mythical person manning the office every day? Those of us with experience watched the events of the previous week (rain, rain, rain), and correctly surmised that the field would be wet. Only Rob went out Saturday (th...

Saturday NEWS

Our towplane was repaired today and should see us through to the annual in October. The SW winds were howling so no flying was done. Paul M. showed up with a trailer of lumber and Wayne and I helped him put together the roof trusses in preparation for erecting the shelter for the camp washrooms. Hop...

Re: Reduce load on the Treasurer and Office and Flight Recorders Please

These are all important considerations, and some would have been unnecessary if we had found a youth employee willing to do some of the office work. Re: Sad News - Walter Chmela

Indeed, he and his mates didn't quite know how well off they were at the POW camp, so they escaped and went to a nearby airfield where they attempted to start an aircraft and go back to Germany at night. After repeated failed attempts to start the engine(s), they wandered back to the camp and carrie...

Re: 2-33 landing speed

All of which is why, at York, after thousands of training and solo flights, we came up with our formula. I expect students and low time pilots to use it prior to every flight after checking the wind. Sometimes downwind checks get rushed, so it's best to have the speed at hand. Do the formula accurat...

Re: 2-33 landing speed

Stall plus one third, as Stan points out is close to L/D for high performance gliders and power planes. However, with 2-33s, the performance is not as high, and often flown by low time pilots. Therefore the extra speed is good, in that a draggy aircraft can lose speed quite fast. Our procedure gets ...
